iPod Touch 2.0
11 07 2008I GOT IT, YOU CAN READ MY EXCITING JOURNEY BUT IF YOU WANT THE GOOD PART READ THE LAST UPDATE!
Recently I received a gift from my parents as a graduation/birthday present. This gift came with perks, the gift was a MacBook Pro (which, by the way, is amazing and soon to be featured on my website with a review). The perks that came with the pro were a free iPod Touch and HP printer (through rebates of course). So, me being a nerd and excited for every new gadget and toy, knowing that some new software was coming out for the iPhone and iPod Touch, I was more than thrilled about having a touch. So today, Friday, July 11th 2008, the day the new software for the touch and iPhone was released, I was more than thrilled to receive it, but this is how everything has gone on so far…
12:00 AM, July 11th: I waited for the release so I could have it at work in the morning of the same day, I would have something to do when we were slow. Plugged in my iPod Touch, gitty as a school girl to have new gadgets to play around with on my iPod, only imagining what I could do. So iPod’s plugged in, new MacBook Pro’s plugged in, iTunes up and running… I hit check for updates on the iPod screen, and nothing, clicked it numerous number of times, and it kept saying version 1.1.4 is currently up to date. Since it was now 1:00 AM, i figured, maybe when i wake up it will be up and running.
Approximately 8:00 AM, July 11th: I go and do the same thing, thinking that Apple had time, it must be up by now, maybe i can get one or two applications on my phone before work. Plug in the iPod, iTunes automatically started, go to check updates, and to my surprise, still nothing. Again, I clicked multiple times thinking, maybe now… no, now!?… no, now?… no, etc.
9:30 AM, July 11th: I arrive at work, and too my surprise I see around 100 people standing in an orderly fashion line in front of the Apple Store, everyone one of them drooling just dreaming how amazing and awesome the new 3G iPhone will be. Mind you our local mall doesn’t open until 10:00 AM and they have been their (my sources told me) since 5:00 AM waiting for this amazing new product.
3:00 PM, July 11th: Finally my long and draining day of work is finally over, and the only thing keeping me running is my dream to be able to put apps. (short for applications incase you are not lingo savvy) on my touch. As to much of my surprise, their is still a line formed in front of the magical Apple Store, of new dreaming faces for their chance to enjoy the new powerful iPhone.
5:00 PM, July 11th: Once again, everything is connected and running, my dreams still running through my head. I go and check updates, and something new! iTunes gracefully alerts me that a new 2.0 version of the iPod touch software is out, and it asks me if I want to learn more. I couldn’t click the Learn more button fast enough. Finally, I was about to get the apps knowing that if I gave Apple some time that they would not let me done. Its loading my iTunes into a special exclusive screen I have never seen before… then, I’m back in my cold iPod screen, wondering what happened. I click the update button once more, it does the same thing, getting my hopes up only to crush them down.
6:41 PM, July 11th: I started thinking, you know, I see more and more of these people are finally getting the software, so I think, maybe I should try. I click check updates, and now Apple’s servers are down. Maybe they are finally fixing everything and making it work correctly.
7:06 PM, July 11th: Nothing new, for the most part. Apple’s servers are now reachable by me, I just can’t seem to get to the ever elusive page where I can download the 2.0 software. Maybe some more time I keep saying, but I don’t think that this is how they dreamed up the launch of these great new applications software. Now that I caught all of the readers up to date. I will continuously update the site whenever something new happens!
8:08 PM, July 11th: So far, not so good. I’ve been away from my computer for a bit. Just came back to discover yet again nothing has changed. Apple’s servers are simply being pounded by requests of this new software, not to mention the activation of the phones with the updated software, this whole situation has to be a gigantic headache for Apple and its employees who have worked so hard trying to prevent such a fiasco. Although this puts a black eye on Apple (for me at least) I still believe they are a premier company which deserves much respect for what they have achieved so far, and what they are still trying to achieve. Simply put, I am certainly not pleased about how long its taking, but they have been great to me so far that a hiccup here and there are easily over looked.
8:28 PM, July 11th: Haha, just when I thought I was making some progress. So since the last update, I went on the Applications part of iTunes, downloaded a few that I thought would be cool to try when I can actually get the update. So I try the update again, and the button switched to check for updates, and now its says my softwares up to date! I’m taking steps back now!
10:36 PM, July 11th: So, like many other people online, I am one of many iPod Touch users not capable of getting this elusive Software update from Apple. I already have plenty of apps I want to try on my iPod, but not software to run them on. Also, I have been religiously trying to get the update by simple, yet again, clicking the stupid Update button that says would you like to learn more about the update, I simply click the “Learn More” button, and I’m back where I started. Now, all of a sudden, I click the button, but the iTunes store is now unreachable. Could this mean Steve Jobs and his dedicated “specialists” are trying to fix the problem, or is it yet another delay which I will sit through only to legally buy software because I always believe in supporting people (artists mainly) and company’s (like Apple, Disney, and Pixar) that produce great products, while others over the internet simply get it illegally. I’m now questioning how good these will be, I hope they (applications) will be worth the wait, and measly $10. I guess the majority of us will have to wait and see.
12:15 AM, July 12th: Obviously I haven’t received the update yet. I am now calling it quits for the night, only to hope that when I wake they will fix whatever is wrong, everything has been speculation so far and nobody besides Apple knows exactly what is going on. So, I’m done for now, but hope by the time I wake up tomorrow before work, everything will be working fine, and I’ll be able to gladly buy the 2.0 software update for my iPod touch, and then go to work as a happy and proud iPod Touch owner.
12:24 AM, July 12th: So, right before I went to bed, I looked around online, wondering… did I miss something that someone else might have wrote. So I’m looking around, still nothing. So, my last desperate attempt, and all of a sudden a new screen appeared, honestly I couldn’t tell you what it said cause I was so excited to get through that I clicked buy it (trust me, I had enough time to look everything up about it from 12 AM last night to know). So, I bought it and now I’m downloading it with a glorious wait time of 9 minutes… I think I can wait!
